Black Tie Ball 2022
This sold-out evening brought together both local and international companies and individuals to recognise excellence in suicide prevention in the Humber region and to honour those who have made a significant impact in the field of suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
Hosted by Think Mental Health, guests were treated to singer Jade Scott on arrival, an exclusive three-course meal accompanied by live music from The AirWaves and to end the evening off with top DJ Ben Rainey . Guests heard first-hand accounts of inspiring people who have gone above and beyond to make a difference in their community or workplace.
It was a first of its kind in Hull. It will become an annual awards event gathering people from all walks of life to celebrate the achievements of those who have taken a stand for mental health and suicide prevention, with all proceeds being donated to ANDYSMANCLUB, a male suicide prevention charity, offering free-to-attend peer-to-peer support groups across the United Kingdom and online.
The combined goal of everyone involved with the club, which meets weekly on a Monday evening, is to help end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and help men through the power of conversation. The slogan and hashtag #ITSOKAYTOTALK has become synonymous with men and their families across the UK, whose first club was opened in Hull and now has over 60 clubs nationwide.
Suicide is a preventable tragedy that claims too many lives each year, so to raise mental health awareness and promote suicide prevention, Jeni Cornwall, Paul Longley and Leon McQuade launched The Think Mental Health Black Tie Ball.
Jeni Cornwall said:
“The awards are free to enter, and they recognise individuals and businesses that are making a difference in the fight against suicide prevention. Shining a spotlight on these unsung heroes' work, the awards are helping to change the conversation around suicide prevention and mental health within our region.”
Paul Longley added:
“This year's awards ceremony was a great success, and we are looking forward to seeing even more innovation and progress in the field of mental health in the years to come. Thanks to everyone who helped make this night possible!”
The awards were presented to individuals, teams or organisations that had made an outstanding contribution to suicide prevention, winners on the night included;
Airco - Think Mental Health Black Tie Ball Catalyst Award 2022
Airco for the Catalyst Award, sponsored by Think Cloud Inc Ltd and presented by Leon McQuade and Paul Longley to Chris Goodwin - Commercial Director Airco.
Leon McQuade said,
"Airco has supported me from the beginning when I had the idea to bring AMC back into Hull. They have helped provide a safe space for men to come and talk about their emotions before they get off hand. In the early days, we went from 6 to 84 attendees, with Airco always going above and beyond to support us.From Paul and me setting alarms off and ringing directors out of hours to breaking coffee machines due to the huge numbers who once attended. Airco was once Hull's only venue, and to think we now have seven across the area without Airco's amazing support in the early days, this may not have been the case. Again a Global pandemic could stop us, with Airco again pivotal in helping AMC bring back face-to-face meetings, allowing Hull to be the first club to test processes and procedures and ultimately reopen.”
"We can't thank you enough!"
